Saving Browser Tabs Link

Dr. Drang has a nice writeup of how he saves browser tabs. I still prefer saving to Pinboard over saving to a local file. If “the cloud” is down, then most likely my browser is irrelevant anyway. Also, Pinboard is where I keep everything link-related so I don’t want to carve out different places for similar data.

MacHeist with Evernote and Scrivener Link

I’m not sure how any of the developers make any money off of this deal, but $30 for 15 months of Evernote Premium service and Scrivener are a good deal. I also recommend Printopia.

CloudApp and Droplr

I’ve built many custom solutions for uploading and sharing files. I have my own FTP upload and Amazon S3 push, both built on Hazel. I use this system every day and it works like a charm. I use the FTP host for posting to Macdrifter and I use the S3 links for sharing with friends. I really like “owning” my stuff. But I’ve been looking for a more convenient and ubiquitous sharing solution so I have been test driving Droplr and CloudApp.

Optimal Layout App Link

A new window manager. I like the idea. I’m not sure it will replace Moom for me but it has some new tricks. It’s more than a window arranger, it’s a window and tab switcher too.

Shortcat App

Shortcat is a new Mac utility application now in beta. It’s entire purpose is to enable keyboard jockeys to click a mouse without touching a mouse. Shortcat is activated by Shift+⌘+Space. Once activated, just start typing the characters on the click target and hit return to click it. I’ve only used it a few hours and I already love it. What is Shortcat? from chendo on Vimeo.

Curio 8 Update

Curio 8 is out and it’s a solid update worthy of the price. It’s $50 for an upgrade or $100 for first time buyers. Version 7 is no longer on the Mac App Store and it looks like version 8 will not be there either. This isn’t a review because I have not had enough time to review this new version. I’ll just talk about how great Curio is and some of the new features that have me excited.

Folding Text to OmniFocus Link

Rob Trew is a rain maker when it comes to OmniFocus scripting. His latest miracle can convert a Folding Text markdown outline into a nested folder, projects and tasks in OmniFocus. When I plan a project, I almost always start with an outline and then manually convert it to an OmniFocus project. This is wonderful. For a bonus, look at his script and marvel at the beauty of the code. What a master.

AppStorm Review of Folding Text Link

AppStorm has a very thorough review of the FoldingText application. FoldingText makes me so angry that I can’t use it all the time for everything.

The VIM of Window Management Link

@drbunsen first linked me to the Slate project on GitHub. It’s a super-geeky window management system for the Mac. I love it, but I also love Moom. I know myself very well though. I’ll probably end up deep down this rabbit hole. Here’s an example of configuring a command: :::text bind pad1:ctrl move 0;0 100;100 1 See you guys in a few weeks. Also by way of Michael Tsai.
