Evernote for Sublime Text Link

What a great looking plugin for Sublime Text. Allows you to send text from Sublime Text to Evernote as a new note. It also allows you to popup a list of notes in Sublime Text and open one as a Markdown plain text version in Sublime. It also uses a YAML header in the note to display or set the Evernote attributes like folder and tags. You’ll need an Evernote developer token for it to work though.

Evernote's New Naturalish Language Search Link

The latest update to Evernote for Mac adds some new query syntax to make searching faster. “Recipes with photos tagged vegetarian” That’s pretty nice. Natural language search is great when it works but you must know the rules. It looks like Evernote provides a lot of modifier syntax so it should be pretty flexible. For example, by exposing the source attribute you can create a query like Notes from email to only show results that were emailed into Evernote.

Evernote Web Clipper Discord

The new Evernote Web Clipper looks amazing. Unfortunately is breaks the FastMail web app and is problematic for the Plex web app. Even after disabling the Evernote plugin on Safari, I still saw conflicts with Plex. While the Evernote clipper may be amazing, it’s disheartening that this kind of interference was not noticed during testing. I do not plan to allow this plugin in my browser in the future, even though I really like Evernote.

Evernote Evolution

The Evernote developer conference is just wrapping up and the news this year is about the Skitch redesign, integration with Post-It notepads and the Evernote Marketplace. It’s interesting to see how a nerd tool like Evernote breaks through into the mainstream and I think they are doing the right thing embracing the Post-It Note legacy. It’s smart. Brett Kelly is also smart. He consistently times his updates to Evernote Essentials to hit the virtual streets right when Evernote makes major changes.

Evernote Reminders Link

This a pretty big announcement from Evernote. Evernote entries can be set with a reminder. The reminders trigger notifications in iOS and on the Mac when they are due. It’s a nice little system for people that aren’t buried in a task manager but still want to remember to work on something. I like where this is going.

Mactuts Evernote Tips Link

Mactuts has a nice (and succinct) set of tips for Evernote. I had no idea that a todo:* search finds all notes with checklists. Clever.

Three Third Party Evernote Apps for iOS

Evernote is constantly improving and it is one of the first things I recommend to anyone looking for a general capture tool. I use it enough that I’m always interested in making it do more. Here are some apps that add some unique features to the mix. EverClip does one job: It runs in the background and grabs anything put on the pasteboard and uploads it to Evernote. Given that Evernote is available everywhere, EverClip actually makes a pretty good multi-platform clipboard tool.
