Nerds on Draft Classic Belgians and Knowing When You're Done Link

I’m enjoying making Nerds on Draft a little too much. On episode 3, Jeff and I sample two of the classic Belgian-style beers and talk about the conflict between sweating the details and knowing when to say no. I think the show turned out great, but then again, I’m biased toward good Belgian beer.

Relay.fm Link

Relay.fm is a new podcast network by Mike Hurley and Stephen Hackett that aggregates new shows with tried and true podcasters I’ve enjoyed in the past. Inquisitive is the spiritual successor to ⌘+Space and Connected is the successor to the The Prompt show. I’m particularly looking forward to Jason Snell’s new show Upgrade. I listen to at least 6 podcast episodes a day across many different genres and several networks. It’s one of my favorite forms of media.

Optimizing Your Podcast Site for Huffduffer Link

Erik walks through some improvements he made for Huffduffing Technical Difficulties. It’s somewhat surprising how many people listen to the show through secondary sources like SoundCloud and Huffduffer. Heck, the show wasn’t even in iTunes for over a month. I think this is a good trend.

Tom Merritt and FrogPants Link

Cumulatively, I’ve listened to Tom Merritt’s voice longer than any other show host. I’ve followed him as he moved from CNET to Twit. While many of the other Twit shows lost my interest, I consistently enjoyed Tom’s smart opinions and reasoned approach to tech reporting. He’s now been fired from Twit, which means that I’m now following him to FrogPants. Luckily, I’m also a fan of Scott Johnson and I think this is a great next step.

Three Podcasts for this Week October 15th

Let’s Make Mistakes with Andrea Seabrook: Listen to a respected journalist talk about the reality of politics. She’s breaking down the smoke and mirrors that manipulate us all. She also curses, which was very nice to hear. Roderick on the Line, In Pursuit of an Errant Leaf: Merlin and John get into some deep stuff about philosophy. This is one of those gems of a show that tricks you into thinking deeply about uncomfortable subjects.

Shawn Today

I don’t like “productivity” as it exists today on the web. Most of it is hypothetical preaching about an imaginary and idealized world. The best stuff I’ve heard in the past year has all come out on the Shawn Today podcast. It’s Shawn Blanc just talking about real, complicated, hard stuff. No “solutions”. No “hacks”. Just logic and honest thinking. If you’re not a member, you are only hurting yourself.
