FoldingText is a Mac text editor that’s kind of hard to describe. It’s a plain text outliner and todo manager. It’s a new way to think about writing.
The Folding Project converts FoldingText files to static web pages.
Acme Plumbing is a creative little package for Sublime Text that enables powerful contextual actions on text in a document. The most simple is launching a URL but the commands can do just about anything Python can do. Lookup the docs for the python function under the mouse, or open the directory for the current file.
So much interesting stuff going on in the Sublime Text world.
FastMail just announced the availability of a beta test for their new calendar webapp and CalDAV syncing service.
It looks simple but functional right now. There are some notable (and acknowledged) missing pieces, like non-functional alerts but this looks like a good start.
I’ve been extremely happy with FastMail for my email.
Here’s my referral code for FastMail if you want to support this site while getting an awesome email service.
Faker generates a wide variety of fake filler data. It’s not just Loerm Ipsum. It can generate fake addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, MD5, dates, etc. You can also use a seed option if you want to always get back the same “random” result. It works from the command line too.
:::text $ python -m faker address 968 Bahringer Garden Apt. 722 Kristinaland, NJ 09890 This is wonderful.
Turns Out™ the tomato and hot pepper are pretty closely related but by a fortuitous circumstance, we get two distinct fruit. Look for genetically enhanced hot peppers in the near future.

Erik walks through some improvements he made for Huffduffing Technical Difficulties. It’s somewhat surprising how many people listen to the show through secondary sources like SoundCloud and Huffduffer. Heck, the show wasn’t even in iTunes for over a month. I think this is a good trend.
Sublimerge is a $10 package for Sublime Text that performs difference previewing and merging. I’ve used it a few times and it is fast and functional but somewhat hard to master. It has some nice features for working with versions, SVN and Git too. It even does directory comparisons.
Here’s a thoughtful series on working with PDFs from Chris Robert:

Processing and Storing
Reviewing and Finding
Maybe it’s my academic years, but I’m a sucker for long posts with a conclusion. It’s kind of like the classy version of TL;DR.
Someone out there with O.C.D. will never be able to drive again. Mesmerizing.
