A nice update to the best iOS GPS app. I’ve reviewed it before and love it.

iTunes Match and Playlists

iTunes Match is nice but it has not altered my enjoyment of iTunes. However, one thing has been a bit of a surprise. All music really means all music on my iPhone. Because I use my iPhone as a music device, I'm a smart list maniac. I have far more music than space (even on a 64GB iPhone 4S). I keep these lists on my phone: Best Songs smartlist (four or more stars) New 2 months smartlist (added within the last 2 months) Push to iPhone (manually curated list of songs/albums I want to always have available) Coding (manually curated list of music without lyrics.

The Man Behind The UK Siri

The Telegraph has a good story about the man behind the UK version of Siri. Do we know the person behind the US Siri voice? I’m not sure I want to know. Without a face, everyone can project an identity onto Siri to fit their own inclinations.

No Plans For Siri On Old iPhones

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple engineering has officially stated that there are no plans to bring Siri to old iOS devices. I personally never expected Siri to come out on older iPhones. Sure, I would have loved for my wife’s “old” iPhone 4 to get Siri. That does not make any sense for Apple though. It’s an amazing selling point for the iPhone 4S. I still think that the iPhone 4S was specifically designed to work best with Siri and that the performance on older hardware is likely to be worse (i.

It039s Not A Search. It039s A Question.

Siri is now fully ingrained in my workflow. I use it at home and on the street constantly. It greatly reduces the time to conceive an idea, research it and then get it written down. Something that I am noticing though is that I no longer need to think about where or how to search. I don’t care. I just want the information and an assurance that the source is reasonably authoritative.

Wifi iTunes Sync Problems

I consistently get a crash report when I manually force a wifi sync to any of our iOS 5 devices. I'm not sure why, but it feels buggy and that worries me.

Siri and Outlook

It is now obvious that Siri has elevated the iOS Reminders app to the winners circle of productivity applications. It has become the quintessential ubiquitous capture device for me. One unexpected side effect is that I am now using the Tasks functionality in Outlook on Windows much more. Exchange Tasks Through my day-job I am forced to use Microsoft Exchange and Outlook on Windows. I loath Outlook but I have come to accept it as my lot in life.

The Value Of App Reviews

This makes no sense to me. This was on the Yahoo IntoNow app reviews: I'm no one to preach about what others should do. Instead, here's my approach toward handling app reviews: If I like an app, I review it If I hate an app, I review it I do not leave bad reviews for free apps. It's not worth my time and really, there's little harm in a bad free app since Apple does a good job excluding malicious apps.

Against QR Codes

I don't begrudge people using QR codes but to me, they seem like a poor solution for a real problem. We need a way for a computer to interpret analog information from the real world. QR codes just make the problem worse for me. I see them on bus stops and billboards all the time. I used to see URL’s instead. At least a URL is legible (most of the time).
