More than Keeping the Lights On

If you’ve been coming around here for a while, then you probably know I don’t shove advertising around every spare div of this site. In fact, I take the relationship between my words and the ads very seriously. But make no mistake, this site is what it is, because of the ads. The amazing redesign by Erik Hess earlier this year was enabled by advertising. The doubling of memory and moving to a faster Webfaction host was enabled by advertising. The hardware and software reviews this year were absolutely enabled by advertising.

Every dime this site makes goes back into the work here. I do this for fun, but it’s not fun to hemorrhage cash.

I’ve never relied on donations to run this site. The occasional donation is nice, but if you read my Donate page you know where my priorities are. Spend your money on things that make you feel good. If those things are the same things that I advertise, then we all win.

Starting next week, you’ll see some new kinds of ads here at Macdrifter.1 I’ll be advertising the stuff that I really love and use and I hope to do it in a way that makes us all feel good. I’ll make the sponsored posts clear and obvious but I also hope I make them something you actually want to see.

I think I have something nice in store for us all.

  1. I’m not doubling the ads. There will still only be one. I will no longer be running the Syndicate ads. ↩︎
